Moving forward with Patient- and Family- Centered Care: IPFCC

What an amazing group I am working with at the Institute for Patient- and Family- Centered Care Seminar, "Hospitals and Communities Moving Forward with Patient- and Family-Centered Care."

It's a privilege to work with such a diverse group. Today we explored the power of story. I was blown away by what I heard. I'm excited to reconnect with the group tomorrow.

I want to tell Dr. Tim Rutledge, President & Chief Executive Officer of North York General Hospital in Toronto, that I am truly inspired by your team and your committment to PFCC. As faculty, I am working with twenty people from North York General Hospital! This is clear and visible committment on your part.

Also on our team are Patient and Family Advisors from Fox Chase Cancer Center, and a leader from Hospice of Cincinnati. What an extraordinary story of partnership shared by Dan about his half marathon run, in which he was joined by his doctor. You can read about it here.
Message to Jim Conway- Martha Hayward, IHI Lead, Public and Patient Engagement and I have found each other!

  1. What great pictures! The story of Dan training and running with his doctor was truly inspirational. I related to his family wanting him to regain his independence but fearing for his safety. I also know the power of strong partnerships here at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Health Centers. The Patient and Family Centered movement is the ethical lens that we needed to place over the healthcare system to see our way back to health. I can’t wait to hear all that you learned.

  2. Thank you Anna and Maureen Connor(North Shore Medical Center,Salem MA)for your insight, enthusiasm, and for sharing your experiences with patient and family centered care at your institutions.
Our 20 member team from the Cancer Care Program and the Patient Experience Team have returned from the Workshop enthusiastic and energized. We heard so many heartfelt stories. Many of us have already begun sharing our experience in Madison with team members.
We are excited to begin this journey of patient and family centered care that will no doubt change the paradigm of care through a cultural transformation resulting in patients, families and care providers better served.
    Also love the photo!

  4. As a member of the team from North York General Hospital, I was both inspired and surprised by the level of enthusiasm and courage of the individuals and organizations that took part in this workshop.

I wanted to say thank you to both you, Anna, and Maureen Connor, (Director of Quality Safety and Risk from North Shore Medical) for your guidance, and assistance. You helped to provide a safe environment where it was easy for us to participate, and get the most out of our time there. It was a gruelling 4 days, but I think well worth the effort.

I also wanted to say thank you to everyone who had stories to share, thanks for bringing yourselves to the table. I learned a lot, and can't wait to bring what I've learned back to Toronto.

I wanted to express my appreciation in participating in the Conference given by the Institute of Patient- and Family- Centered Care in Wisconsin. Anna Roth and Maureen Connor were supportive and easily facilitated our 'delegation from NYGH'.

Although it was intense, it clearly communicated a template for a journey that could only add to enriching and meeting the needs of our patients and families, at a time when one is most vulnerable, fearing that all control is lost.

It provided concrete ideas to meet patient and family needs while engaging staff at all levels in the organization.

    Thank you!!
